Yard waste

Yard waste mainly consists of natural organic matter with high or low moisture content, generally sourced from the back yard (for home composting) or public lands or agricultural fields (for composting at a larger scale). Dry leaves, small pieces of wood and sticks, fresh leaves, grass cuttings and some organic litter constitute this waste. Mostly, the dry component is high in carbon and low in nitrogen while the fresh component (leaves and grass) is high in nitrogen and low in carbon.
