Watson, Alan
Alan Watson is Distinguished Research Professor and Ernest P. Rogers Chair of Law at the University of Georgia School of Law. He is regarded as one of the world's foremost authorities on Roman law, comparative law, legal history, and law and religion. He has written many books, including Legal Transplants: An Approach to Comparative Law (1974), Society and Legal Change (1977), Jesus and the Jews: The Pharisaic Tradition in John (1995), Ancient Law and Modern Understanding: At the Edges (1998), and The Evolution of Western Private Law (2000). His contribution to the study of animals and society is evidenced in his article entitled “Rights of Slaves and Other Owned-Animals” (Animal Law, volume 3). Therein Watson describes the legal similarities between the treatment of human slaves and enslaved animals.
