Oysters reefs along the Louisiana coast were once so pervasive they blocked shipping traffic. But over harvesting and pollutionhave diminished the reefs. The recent oil spill (Deepwater Horizon oil spill )contributed to oyster kills, but scientists are working to restore the oyster habitat.
