Wozniak, Steve
Steve Wozniak (1950-) is an American computer scientist who co-founded Apple Computer, Inc. with Steve Jobs in 1976. He helped launch the PC industry with his design of the Apple I personal computer that debuted in April 1976 at the Homebrew Computer Club in Palo Alto, CA. It featured a central processing unit (CPU), keyboard, and floppy disk drive. Later that year, Wozniak and Steve Jobs formed Apple Computer, Inc. The company, began as a two-man operation in Jobs' garage, but eventually grew into a billion dollar enterprise. Wozniak left Apple in 1981, and since then, he has been involved in various business and philanthropic ventures, focusing primarily on computer capabilities in schools. For his achievements, he was awarded the National Medal of Technology by the President of the United States in 1985, the highest honor bestowed America's leading innovators.
