Chauncey Starr (1913-2007), an American physicist who played an important role in the development of nuclear power in the U.S. He was the founding President, and later Vice Chairman, of the Electric Power Research Institute, an influential organization funded by the nation’s electricity industry that provides technical, business, and scientific services to the power sector. Starr was awarded the U.S. National Medal of Technology in 1990 for his work in industry and education, including major contributions to nuclear power, risk assessment, and energy studies. He also received the René Dubois Environmental Award in 1992 for his contributions to the understanding of the interactions between energy and the environment.
