Biography:

Pam Civie has been an integral part of the research arm of the Toxics Use Reduction Institute since 2000, and is the Industry Research Program Manager. She manages the University Research in Sustainable Technologies program and the Cleaner Technology Demonstration Site and Matching Grant program. As part of the latter program Ms. Civie facilitates Environmental Management Systems (EMS) industry workgroups in Massachusetts and conducts internal EMS auditing trainings. Ms. Civie promotes Green Chemistry research and application in academia and industry and has been active in convening multidisciplinary research teams to investigate the environmental and human health implications of nanomaterials use. Most recently she was a lead author of the Institute's Five Chemicals Alternatives Assessment Study, conducted at the request of the Massachusetts Legislature, developing the methodology for assessing alternatives and researching Alternatives to the plasticizer DEHP.

Prior to joining the Institute, Ms. Civie worked for 15 years in environmental engineering consulting, providing services that included Toxics Use Reduction planning and multi-media regulatory compliance auditing for industries in New England and throughout the United States. She earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Chemical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering.
