McDonough, William

William McDonough (1951- ), an American architect noted for his innovations in energy- and environmentally-sensitive design and buildings. He became Dean of the School of Architecture at the University of Virginia in 1994. McDonough was recognized by Time as a “Hero for the Planet” in 1999 and received the Presidential Award for Sustainable Development in 1996, the nation’s highest environmental honor.
