The Deepwater Horizon oil spill is by far the world's largest accidental release of oil into marine waters, making it one of the nation's worst environmental disasters. It will have far-reaching implications for the nation's energy and environmental technologies and policies. These include environmental review of offshore oil operations, health and safety on oil platforms, and the issue of oil dependency.
