Kevin Vranes

Dr. Kevin Vranes is currently a Principal Consultant at Point380 LLC a consulting firm focusing on carbon, climate and energy management for corporations and municipalities.
He was previouslyVisiting Fellow of the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Environmental Sciences (CIRES), a joint center of NOAA and the University of Colorado. He researched science policy topics in climate change, natural hazards, and water resources at the Center for Science and Technology Policy Research. Before joining CIRES, Kevin was a Visiting Professor in the Department of Geosciences at the University of Montana.
Vranes was the 2003-2004 Congressional Science Fellow of the American Geophysical Union. He served his fellowship in the office of Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon. For Senator Wyden he covered a broad array of issues, from energy to transportation to abandoned mines to endangered salmon.
Vranes holds a Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography and Climatology from Columbia University, where he studied at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory. His dissertation research covered the tropical ocean flow from the Pacific Ocean to the Indian Ocean via the Indonesian Seas.
Vranes' peer-reviewed publications range from physical oceanography to natural hazards to the politics of science.
