Biography:

John Swaddle is an associate professor of biology and Director of the Environmental Science and Policy program at The College of William and Mary, in Williamsburg, Virginia. Professor Swaddle's research emphasis is in behavioral ecology and evolution, focusing on how anthropogenic alteration of the environment influences the ecology and evolution of bird populations. His work has ranged from mechanical studies of avian flight and predation risk to investigating how animal communication is affected by environmental degradation.

Professor Swaddle is a previous research fellow of the Royal Society of London and winner of both the American Society of Naturalists' Young Investigator prize and the Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour's Most Outstanding New Investigator prize. He has published more than 50 peer-reviewed articles in ecology and evolution journals and written one book. John received a BS (Hons) from Bristol University with a double major in Psychology and Zoology and also received his PhD in Biology from the same institution. He has worked at the University of Glasgow in Scotland and at the University of Chicago before moving to William and Mary.
