John R. Dolan

John R. Dolan is a senior research scientist with the French national science organization, the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique. His expertise is in plankton ecology. He studied at San Francisco State University and holds a PhD. from the University of Maryland in Marine Estuarine Environmental Sciences. After post-doctoral work at the Chesapeake Bay Institute and the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, he moved to the Oceanographic Laboratory in Villefranche-sur-Mer and presently heads the Marine Microbial Ecology group. His research activities center on factors regulating the activities and species compositions of plankton communities. He has a special interest in planktonic ciliates, especially tintinnids which display an amazing variety of forms.
