Dr. David Orr is the Paul Sears Distinguished Professor of Environmental Studies and Politics at Oberlin College, and the James Marsh Professor at Large, University of Vermont. He is nationally recognized as a leader in environmental education, ecological literacy, and environmental design. Dr. Orr is the author of The Fifth Revolution: Ecological Design and the Making of the Adam Joseph Lewis Center (2006), Earth in Mind: Essays on Education, Environment, and the Human Prospect (1994), and Ecological Literacy: Education and the Transition to a Postmodern World (1992). He is, or has been, a Trustee of The Aldo Leopold Foundation, the Rocky Mountain Institute, and the Jessie Smith Noyes Foundation. Dr. Orr raised funds for and spearheaded the effort to design and build a US$7.2 million Environmental Studies Center at Oberlin College. This building was among the first in the nation to demonstrate the principles of Sustainable design on a college campus. From energy systems to food production, habitat restoration to wastewater recycling, the Center serves as a living laboratory for the emerging field of Ecological design.
