Antarctic Protection Act of 1990, United States

The United States Congress enacted the Antarctic Protection Act of 1990 in recognition of the region's distinct ecosystems and habitats for unique organisms with the potential to benefit scientific research. The Act mandates that any person under US jurisdiction is not to engage in, finance, or knowingly provide assistance to any mineral resource activity in Antarctica. Other wildlife protection provisions are also outlined in the Act.
