Alaska Hydroelectric Power Development Act, United States

The Alaska Hydroelectric Power Development Act of 1976, was an amendment to of the Water Resource Planning Act of 1965 that support the development of hydroelectric facilities in the state of Alaska.
The Act declared that:
- The Congress finds that the expeditious development of hydroelectric power generating facilities in Alaska that are environmentally sound to assist the Nation in meeting existing and future energy demands is in the national interest.
- The Congress therefore declares that the expertise of the Chief of Engineers (the head of the Army Corps of Engineers) can and should be utilized for the benefit of local public bodies in the development of projects which yield 90 per centum or more of the benefits of the project are attributable to hydroelectric power generation when the project is fully operational.
The Act established the Alaska Hydroelectric Power Development Fund with an inititial $25 million that was made available to the Secretary of the Army to cover the design, construction and development costs for hydroelectric power facilities.
