BALTEX is an acronym for the Baltic Sea Experiment, a Global Energy and Water Cycle Experiment (GEWEX) project to study coupled hydrological processes between complicated topography, sea and ice and the atmospheric circulation (Earth's atmosphere) to determine the energy and water budgets of the Baltic Sea and related river basins.
This article is written at a definitional level only. Authors wishing to expand this entry are inivited to expand the present treatment, which additions will be peer reviewed prior to publication of any expansion. |
The scientific objectives are to:
- Explore and model the various mechanisms determining the space and time variability of energy and water budgets of the BALTEX area and its interactions with surrounding regions;
- Relate these mechanisms to the large–scale circulation systems in the atmosphere and oceans; and
- Develop transportable methodologies to contribute to research in other regions.
