Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry's
Toxic Substances Portal
The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) has designed the Toxic Substances Portal with features that include intuitive search functions that make it easier for the public and ATSDR's public health partners to find information related to toxic substances and possible health effects.
Features of the Portal include:
Resources by health effect and chemical class:
- Health effects of exposure to toxic substances allows access to health information by target, such as the kidney or reproductive system.
- Chemical classifications allows users to find health effects information for classes or chemicals, such as metals or pesticides.
Resources by audience:
- Community Members can discover information about a chemical of concern and health effects they might experience as a result of exposure.
- Toxicological and Public Health Professionals can use the Portal as a source of information about chemical toxicity and associated health risk levels of the chemicals.
- Emergency Responders can locate publications that help first responders, emergency department physicians and other professionals who manage sudden chemical exposure incidents.
- Health Care Professionals can locate free evidence-based medical education courses that address clinical health effects of hazardous substances.
There are easy ways to search the Portal:
- List of ATSDR Toxic Substances allows an alphabetical search by substance name.
- Search for substances by state identifies substances found at sites in each state.
- Users can also search for substances by entering a full or even partial substance name, CAS #, synonym, or trade name.
