Diastole and systole
(a) During cardiac diastole, the heart muscle is relaxed and blood flows into the heart. (b) During atrial systole, the atria contract, pushing blood into the ventricles. (c) During atrial diastole, the ventricles contract, forcing blood out of the heart.
