The historical province of Halland has virtually the same boundaries as the current administrative entity, the County of Halland. The major exception is the eastern part of the municipality of Hylte, which belonged to the province of Småland.
Halland became a county with its own Governors in 1658. The main aim of the County Administrative Board is to fullfil the goals set in national politics by the Parliament and the Government, to coordinate the interests of the county, to promote the development of the county, to establish regional goals and safeguard the due process of law in the handling of each case.
Among the main responsibilities for the County Council of Halland or Landstinget Halland are the public health care issues.
The County of Halland inherited its coat of arms from the province of Halland. When it is shown with a royal crown it represents the County Administrative Board.
