Grouse are a group of large gamebirds[?] of the order Galliformes which inhabit temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere.

Males are often polygamous, and many species have elaborate courtship displays. These heavily built birds have legs feathered to the toes.

These birds feed mainly on vegetable food, but will also take insects.

This group is related to other members of the gamebird family.

Order: Galliformes

The buttonquails are sometimes given order status as the Turniciformes.
