Karlstad is a
municipality in west central
Sweden, in the county of
Värmland. The municipality covers an area of 1167.1
km². Of the total population of 80323, 39147 are male, and 41176 are female. The
population density of the community is 69 inhabitants per km².
Karlstad lies on the northern edge of the (lake) Vänern. It was founded by Karl IX of Sweden[?]. The city has a minor international airport.
