Bilingual Social Media Marketing Coordinator (Spanish-English required)

Position Overview:
Hesperian seeks a Spanish-English Bilingual Social Media Marketing Coordinator to design, coordinate, and execute Hesperian’s social media marketing plans and campaigns.  A major focus of our social media work is promoting access to information about safe abortion, family planning and reproductive rights, including promotion of our free apps, often in collaboration with partners in Latin America and Africa. 

The ideal candidate has proven experience with paid social media marketing and other digital outreach, and is passionate about health information access and the right to health, and has strong project management and communication skills. The Bilingual Social Media Marketing Coordinator collaborates with and supports Hesperian staff and contractors who share some of the social media work in English and French. This is an exciting opportunity for creatives with a desire to leave their mark in the world.

The position is full-time and may be fully remote if desired.

Duties:

  • Design and lead implementation of social media marketing campaigns for reproductive health apps and other informational products
  • Plan and manage targeted paid advertising through Facebook Ads and GoogleAds
  • Research and identify trends, provide insight and identify best practices to grow social media channels and engagement
  • Maintain quality social media presence, including: creating content, responding to comments and messages, resharing and commenting on content from partners, and growing the community
  • Build relationships with partners through joint campaigns
  • Data analysis and reporting per handle inclusive of top performing posts, impressions, engagement rates, click through rates, highest-performing days and times, etc. in addition to appropriately tagging and tracking each post
  • Support the development of strategy and goals based on performance and topic and regional knowledge

Qualifications/requirements:

  • Spanish and English language fluency
  • Proven social media marketing experience including development of marketing strategy and implementing effective social media campaigns
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in marketing, outreach, or communications in the nonprofit sector
  • Strong planning and project management skills, ability to manage multi-faceted projects
  • Strong writing and editing skills, especially of promotional materials and email communication
  • Experience using HootSuite, Canva, and other content creation tools
  • Experience with SEO is a plus
  • Passion for health information and health access. Experience in the fields of women’s health, reproductive justice, abortion access and related fields is a plus.

Grants Manager (80% to Full Time)

Position Description

Since our founding more than 45 years ago, Hesperian has joined with like-minded organizations and movements to promote health justice on a global scale.

Hesperian seeks a highly motivated Grants Manager to lead our foundation fundraising effort. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, collaborative individual with enthusiasm for and commitment to Hesperian’s work, mission, and philosophy. They possess the experience and motivation to conduct development research; prepare effective briefs, proposals, updates, and reports; manage an active portfolio of institutional supporters and prospects; and contribute to the overall success of the development team. The Grants Manager reports to our Development Director, works closely with the Executive Director, and with the Development Associate, project managers, and finance team; and may work with volunteers, student interns, and consultants.

The Grants Manager position is ideally 80% FTE with benefits; depending on the skills and interest we would consider hiring at 100% FTE or at 60% FTE.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and applying a deep understanding of Hesperian’s programs to effectively tell our story to domestic and international funders.
  • Maintaining the grants calendar and institutional funder records to track meetings, internal and external deadlines, relationship-building and other communications.
  • Timely drafting, submitting, and following up on LOIs, grant proposals, and reports focusing on an assigned portfolio of current and new funders.
  • Using sound judgment in supporting and building strong relationships with assigned institutional funders and their representatives.
  • Conducting prospect research, identifying funding opportunities for one or more program areas, and preparing briefs on institutional donors and prospects.
  • Working with the Director of Development to prepare the Executive Director, relevant staff, and Board members in advance of meetings with institutional donors and prospects.
  • Maintaining and regularly sharing knowledge of relevant local, national, and international trends and opportunities in institutional giving.
  • Assisting with Hesperian development and promotional events, as needed.

Qualifications:

  • At least three years of direct or related experience with grant writing, foundation relations, development support, or philanthropy.
  • Fluency in English with strong writing and analytical skills.
  • Excellent oral and interpersonal communications skills. 
  • Experience in researching, identifying, and cultivating new relationships with prospective institutional funders preferred
  • Highly organized, able to take the initiative, work in a team, and be resourceful with excellent time management skills.
  • Working knowledge of ethical standards for development professionals and effective use of independent judgment.
  • Demonstrable flexibility and resilience in a dynamic work environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and prior nonprofit employment.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office, G Suite, Dropbox, CRM database management preferred.
  • Bilingual/bicultural is a plus, as is experience working or volunteering internationally.

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary range: $65,000-$72,000 (full-time equivalent, pro-rated to 80% FTE)

Development Associate

Hesperian seeks a highly motivated Development Associate to join our team. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, collaborative individual with enthusiasm for and commitment to Hesperian’s work, mission, and philosophy. This is an excellent opportunity for a young professional to build and broaden experience in non-profit fundraising. This position is an integral part of the Development team.

The Development Associate position is full-time with benefits; and with the ability to work in Hesperian’s East Bay offices as public health conditions permit. 

Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Support the Development Director in developing and implementing specific plans for the solicitation and stewardship of individual donors at all levels of giving.
  • Lead the creation and implementation of strategies to cultivate donors through the expanded use of social media, crowd-funding, events, and other creative avenues.
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of new fundraising campaigns and a robust outreach and communication strategy.
  • Manage gift processing and donor recognition processes; 
  • Participate in drafting donor correspondence, campaign mailings, and other stewardship communications for individual donors at all levels of giving.
  • Curate and manage Hesperian’s donor contact lists; support implementation of new segmentation strategies.
  • Work with Hesperian’s communications team to maintain copy on Hesperian’s website, draft outreach emails, blog posts, etc.
  • Support the Grants Manager in researching potential sources for institutional grants.
  • Participate in drafting of letters of inquiry, reports, and other outreach materials for current and prospective foundation funders.
  • Represent Hesperian at occasional community events and meetings, virtually or in person as public health conditions permit.
  • Work with the Development Director and the Grants Manager to develop annual fundraising plans for individual donors and institutional sources. 
  • Participate in Hesperian’s Board of Directors’ quarterly Fund Development Committee meetings.

The ideal candidate for this position will have the following qualifications and characteristics:

  • One to 2 years prior experience with fundraising and/or communications work
  • Proven comfort and skill with databases and/or CRM software and excel
  • Strong detail orientation
  • Creative problem-solving and strong organizational skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to self-manage while carrying out multiple tasks. Proven success at managing multiple projects and relationships.  
  • Experience living overseas and/or interest in global health a plus
  • Bilingual English/Spanish, English/ French or other languages a plus
  • Experience with mass email providers, and/or familiarity with WordPress and html a plus
  • Commitment to promoting social justice, especially the right of all people to good health

LOCATION:  Work at Hesperian’s East Bay offices at least 3 days/ week, some remote work possible.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: This is a full time position. Starting salary is $50,000 to $54,000 depending on experience. Excellent benefits including medical, dental and vision care.
