Notes concerning the files available for use with the text "Loss Models: From Data to Decisions, 1st ed." by S. Klugman, H. Panjer, and G. Willmot, copyright 1998 by John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Latest revision of this note -- July 4, 2004 ------------------------------------------------ I. The programs and files made available here are done so for the purpose of enhancing the educational experience provided by the text. While none of them are necessary for understanding the text or for working the exercises, they can be a significant aid. All questions or comments should be addressed to Stuart Klugman at Stuart.Klugman@Drake.edu. However, he is under no obligation to respond to questions or requests. II. The file LMPROGS.ZIP contains several DOS programs. Instructions for using the programs are contained in the file MANUAL.PDF which can be read and printed using the widely available and free Adobe Acrobat Reader. The other files are: FIT.EXE -- Obtains maximum likelihood estimates and various diagnostic measures for a number of continuous distributions. DFIT.EXE -- Obtains maximum likelihood estimates and varioud diagnostic measures for a number of discrete distributions. CR.EXE -- Uses the recursive algorithm to compute aggregate probabilities. It also creates discrete approximattions for the continuous distributions used in FIT.EXE. CRC.EXE -- Performs numerical convolutions of a discrete distribution with itself. CRC2.EXE -- Performs a numerical convolution of two different discrete distributions. RUIN.EXE -- Computes ruin probabilities for a compound Poisson process with discrete, annual claims. FREQADJ.EXE -- Provides the parameters for modification of a frequency distribution when claims are truncated from below or above. *.DAT -- Various data files for use with examples in the manual or for practice with the programs. *.SAV -- Files created by FIT.EXE or DFIT.EXE for saving maximum likelihood estimates. III. LMCRIMC.ZIP is a ZIP file containing the program CRIMCALC.COM along with some other files. CRIMCALC.COM is a shareware program created by Glenn Meyers which implements the Heckman-Meyers inversion formula for computing aggregate probabilities. This program is a copy of the one available directly from Glenn at his web site (www.pipeline.com/~ggmeyers/version1.htm) and will be available here as long he chooses to offer a shareware version of his program. IV. DATAFILES1E.ZIP is a ZIP file which contains data files for many of the examples and exercises in the book. Files ending in .DAT are ASCII files with the data arranged in the format needed for input to FIT or DFIT. Files ending in .CSV are comma separated ASCII files, readable by most spreadsheet programs. The file DATAFILES1E.TXT is a text file which provides an index for matching filenames to excercise numbers. V. ERRATA.PDF is a pdf file readable by the Adobe Acrobat Reader. It contains errata for both the book and the solutions manual.
