Yid

Yid, is the Yiddish word for Jew. It has its origins in the Medieval High German word Jüde (the contemporary German word is Jude.)

Compare to the word Yiddish, which comes from German jüdisch, meaning jewish. Historically, the word Yiddish is an adjective derived from the original noun Yid.

In English, the word yid (but not Yiddish) is usually offensive according to, for instance, Webster. The word may be heard in inoffensive or jocular forms among Jews, particularly those who speak Yiddish, but it is considered rude when used by others. This is in contrast to a word such as kike which is generally considered grossly offensive in a way similar to nigger.
