Vet

Vet has three main meanings in standard English:

1. Veteran[?]: "A Vietnam vet is a soldier who served in the Vietnam war".

2. A veterinarian or veterinary surgeon: "A vet is an animal doctor".

3. A verb derived from 2 and meaning "to check": "The police vetted the crowd for weapons before allowing them to enter the building".
