Transverse myelitis

Transverse myelitis is a neurologic disorder caused by loss of myelin sheath of the spinal cord. It may occur alone or together with Multiple Sclerosis. In some cases, the diseases is assumed to be caused by viral infections or vaccinations. Patients usually suffer from weakness and numbness of the legs and/or arms and sphincter deficits. A severe backpain can occur in some patients only in the beginning of the disease. The treatment is usually symptomatic and corticosteroids may be used with limited success.
