Temple City is a city located in Los Angeles County, California. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 33,377.

Geography

Temple City is located at 34°6'10" North, 118°3'29" West (34.102641, -118.057979)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 10.4 km² (4.0 mi²). 10.4 km² (4.0 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 33,377 people, 11,338 households, and 8,662 families residing in the city. The population density is 3,213.7/km² (8,313.8/mi²). There are 11,674 housing units at an average density of 1,124.0/km² (2,907.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 48.73% White, 0.92% African American, 0.44% Native American, 38.89% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 7.48% from other races, and 3.48% from two or more races. 20.48% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 11,338 households out of which 36.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.8% are married couples living together, 14.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.6% are non-families. 19.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.90 and the average family size is 3.33.

In the city the population is spread out with 24.0% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 28.9% from 25 to 44, 25.1% from 45 to 64, and 14.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 90.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.7 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $48,722, and the median income for a family is $54,455. Males have a median income of $39,365 versus $32,103 for females. The per capita income for the city is $20,267. 9.3% of the population and 7.2% of families are below the poverty line.
