Splice

A splice has several meanings:
  1. In sailing it means to to join two pieces of rope or wire by weaving the strands of each into the other.
  2. In film technique it means to join the ends of two pieces of film or magnetic tape, for example, in editing.
  3. In genetics it means to to join together or insert pieces of genetic material when altering the genetic structure of something or when forming a new combination. See splicing for more information.
