A
spectroscope is a device which measures the
spectrum of light. Early spectroscopes were simply a prism with graduations marking wavelengths. Modern spectroscopes generally use a
diffraction grating, a movable slit and some kind of
photodetector[?], all automated and controlled by a
computer.
