The plot is kept very simple so that the maximum number of jokes possible can be packed in. The majority of the scenes and characters are parodies of Star Wars, although some other science fiction movies and the genre in general are parodied as well.
- Col. Sandurz: Prepare the ship for light speed.
- Dark Helmet: No. No. No. Light speed is too slow. (pause) We're going to have to go right to...LUDICROUS speed.
- Dark Helmet: So, Lone Starr, now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb.
- Dark Helmet: Slotkin...we're done with you. Go back to the golf course and work on your putts.
