Sheridan is a village located in La Salle County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 2,411.

Geography

Sheridan is located at 41°31'42" North, 88°41'3" West (41.528397, -88.684072)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 3.8 km² (1.5 mi²). 3.7 km² (1.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.76% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 2,411 people, 285 households, and 214 families residing in the village. The population density is 660.2/km² (1,715.5/mi²). There are 297 housing units at an average density of 81.3/km² (211.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 53.63% White, 37.20% African American, 0.25% Native American, 0.37% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 7.96% from other races, and 0.58% from two or more races. 9.37% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 285 households out of which 43.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.3% are married couples living together, 10.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.9% are non-families. 20.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.86 and the average family size is 3.32.

In the village the population is spread out with 10.7% under the age of 18, 21.4% from 18 to 24, 52.4% from 25 to 44, 11.8% from 45 to 64, and 3.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 31 years. For every 100 females there are 486.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 660.8 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $45,000, and the median income for a family is $49,615. Males have a median income of $24,270 versus $21,406 for females. The per capita income for the village is $11,352. 3.3% of the population and 2.3% of families are below the poverty line.
