Pitcairn Island

Redirected from PitcairnIsland

Pitcairn Island, one of the Pitcairn Islands group, is one of the most remote sites of human habitation on the planet, situated in the south Pacific Ocean.

The first Pitcairners were roughneck sailors, and their Tahitian wives, from the famous 1789 mutiny on the HMS Bounty.

English and an English-Polynesian creole are spoken there.

Pitcairn Island is a protectorate of the United Kingdom but politically unique. Its population in 1991 was around 60. The capital is Adamstown, named for John Adams, the last of the mutineers, who died in 1829.
