Wikipedia:Piped link

Redirected from Piped link

A piped link is a link like station, showing up as station: the link is labeled differently from the name of the article it links to, "Train station".

In the example the word "station" might be used in an article on trains; from the context it would be clear that a train station is meant. The piped link is more convenient to the user than a link station to the disambiguation page.

However, according to Wikipedia:WikiProject Music standards, a link labeled with a year only should link to the general year article, and, even in an article on music, not to the year-in-music article. See also Wikipedia talk:Music standards archive 1.

In the case of railway station, showing up as railway station, an alternative is simply using railway station, showing up as railway station, and making that a redirect page.
