Pickled snakes

Pickled snakes are the most commonly found preserved animals, put inside alcoholic drinks in China, such as rice wine[?].

This common practice in China is quite popular, however, there are occasionally consequences to this bottling trait. On October 14 or 15, 2002 a man was attacked by a pickled snake. Opening his bottle on his lunch break, the snake sprank out, biting him on the neck. Li, the victim of this accident, was taken to a Suizhou[?] hospital, and was not in any danger from the actions. The Xin Bao[?] newspaper said the bottle's stopper was made from wood or cork and allowed air into the vessel, helping the snake to survive for a year.
