Per Albin Hansson, leader of the
Social Democrats in
Sweden, was
Prime Minister of four
governments between
1932 and
1946, including the coalition government during
World War II. An anti-militarist, he opposed Sweden's participation in the war and advocated a policy of neutrality. Politically he advocated and worked for the introduction of a
Welfare state system, which he called "Folkhemmet". Hansson died of a stroke while riding in a streetcar in
Stockholm.
