Orchards is a town located in Clark County, Washington. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 17,852.

Geography

Orchards is located at 45°41'2" North, 122°31'45" West (45.683873, -122.529267)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 17.8 km² (6.9 mi²). 17.8 km² (6.9 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 17,852 people, 5,918 households, and 4,704 families residing in the town. The population density is 1,004.8/km² (2,601.4/mi²). There are 6,175 housing units at an average density of 347.5/km² (899.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 87.39% White, 1.75% African American, 0.88% Native American, 4.11% Asian, 0.59% Pacific Islander, 1.84% from other races, and 3.44% from two or more races. 4.53% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 5,918 households out of which 49.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.4% are married couples living together, 11.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 20.5% are non-families. 14.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 2.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.02 and the average family size is 3.34.

In the town the population is spread out with 34.2% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 36.9% from 25 to 44, 16.5% from 45 to 64, and 4.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 29 years. For every 100 females there are 99.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 99.2 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $49,216, and the median income for a family is $50,330. Males have a median income of $37,716 versus $26,576 for females. The per capita income for the town is $17,866. 6.7% of the population and 4.6% of families are below the poverty line.
