Network Information Centre

NIC stands for Network Information Centre and is part of the domain name system on the Internet.

In addition to the world roots, each top level domain will have its own NIC.

For example www.nic.uk is Nominet UK the country code registry for the .uk United Kingdom top level domain and www.nic.es is the Spanish country code registry.
