Kistler is a borough located in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 344.

Geography

Kistler is located at 40°22'50" North, 77°52'4" West (40.380652, -77.867737)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.7 km² (0.3 mi²). 0.7 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 7.14% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 344 people, 138 households, and 90 families residing in the borough. The population density is 510.8/km² (1,341.1/mi²). There are 141 housing units at an average density of 209.4/km² (549.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 97.38% White, 0.58% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.29% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.74% from two or more races. 0.58% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 138 households out of which 39.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.8% are married couples living together, 13.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.1% are non-families. 30.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.39 and the average family size is 2.95.

In the borough the population is spread out with 29.9% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 31.4% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 11.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 84.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.4 males.
