James the Great was one of the tweleve
apostles of
Jesus Christ. He was the brother of
John the Apostle. He was put to death by
Herod Agrippa I; afterwards, according to Spanish tradition, his body was taken to
Santiago de Compostela. His feast day is
July 25.
