Hutt City

Hutt City, (pop 95,500) formerly known as Lower Hutt, is a New Zealand city in the lower (southern) valley of the Hutt River, to the northeast of Wellington city. It is the ninth-largest city in New Zealand. The Hutt City region is popular for outdoor sports, especially mountain biking, hiking, fishing and swimming.

Having absorbed the former Borough of Petone[?], Hutt City strengthened its image as the Wellington region's industrial centre (not just a dormitory suburbia). The Waiwhetu Stream[?] has the reputation of surpassing all other New Zealand rivers in pollution and toxicity.

Hutt City also encompasses Wainuiomata and the former Boroughs of Eastbourne and Petone[?].
