Hot Tuna was an American psychedelic rock band, formed by
Jack Casady[?] and
Jorma Kaukonen[?] as an acoustic spin-off of
Jefferson Airplane. Their original name was
Hot Shit. Casady and Kaukonen added
Will Scarlet[?] on
harmonica and recorded
1970's
Hot Tuna[?], which was followed by a long-series of well-received albums that played only to a small and devoted cult following. They are often considered a forerunner of modern
jam bands like
Phish or
Dave Matthews Band.
