Fundamentalists are those believers in the doctrines of
Christianity whose beliefs and
theology tend towards literalism, are founded on a view of Biblical inerrancy and are reflective of traditional interpretations of the
Bible, the scriptures of the Christian religion. They are often identified as religious
conservatives.
Christian
Fundamentalists are frequently represented as holding views antagonistic to Christian
liberals, and this differentiation may also be applied to other religions, such as Islam. In fact, much of the core thinking of both fundamentalists and liberals within a religion can be found to place different emphasis on essentially similar belief structures within that religion.
A denomination in which both fundamentalists and liberals can be accommodated is described as a "broad church".
Christian
Fundamentalists are usually identified as sympathetic to
right wing politics, especially in the US.
