Elizabeth R is a six-part BBC production about
Elizabeth I of England. Picking up where the BBC series
The Six Wives of Henry VIII left off,
Elizabeth followed the same format of six 90-minute plays written by different playwrights. Made in 1971, it was first shown in the U.S. on
Masterpiece Theatre in February-March 1972.
Glenda Jackson starred as Queen Elizabeth,
Robert Hardy played
Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, and
Rosalie Crutchley[?] reprised the role of
Catherine Parr from the
Six Wives series. Roderick Graham was the producer, and there were a total of five directors for the six episodes.
