In
Middle-earth, the
fantasy universe of
J. R. R. Tolkien,
Elendil is the father of
Isildur and
Anárion. In the Last Alliance (of Elves and Men) when
Sauron came to battle himself, he felled Elendil, and
Gil-galad, but good came out of Elendil's death, for his sword,
Narsil, broke under his weight when he fell, and Isildur used the hilt shard and cut the
One Ring from Sauron's hand.
