The first
Marxist government came to power in India in
1957 in
Kerala, a south Indian state. One of the radical legislation passed was the controversial
Education Bill, introduced in the assembly by Prof.
Joseph Mundasseri[?], the then education minister. This bill reduced the role of private sector in education and attempted to regulate the educational institutions' function, including standardizing syllabi, pay structures and such. The religious organizations along with opposition parties including
Indian National Congress started the so called "liberation struggle" to overthrow
EMS government. This bill along with
Land Reforms Act and agriculture legislations imparted drastic changes in Kerala society and paved way for the natural death of feudelistic society in Kerala.
