Distinguished Flying Cross (UK)

The Distinguished Flying Cross or DFC was founded during the First World War, on June 3, 1918 (the birthday of King George V of the United Kingdom. It consisted of a silver cross attached to a medal ribbon with horizontal violet and white stripes. In 1919, the stripes were changed to diagonal ones.
