David Jones

David Jones (1895 - 1974) was a Welsh artist and poet particularly associated with World War I.

When war broke out in 1914, Jones was an art student, but he soon joined the Royal Welch Fusiliers - the same regiment as Siegfried Sassoon and Robert Graves - and served on the Western Front in France and Flanders. It was not until 1937, however, that he published his epic poem, In Parenthesis, which won the Hawthornden Prize in the following year. Jones was equally well-known as a painter, and his water colours are still exhibited at various museums and galleries.
