Battle-axe people

Redirected from Corded people

The Battle-axe people (corded people) were the supposed peoples populating the area of Europe now Germany before the arrival of the Indo-Europeans. Little is known of them, and even their existence is met with skepticism. The name comes from the perforated battle-axes found at archeological sites thought to be from the battle-axe people.

However, a people must have existed in Jutland and the near areas before the Indo-Europeans arrived. The Germanic languages have a large number of non-IE roots (especially sea terms; the first IE speakers lived in an inland area). The only way to account for their existence is a language spoken in the area. Logically, a living language must have speakers.

However, this does not necessarily mean the battle-axe people exist.
