Commack is a town located in Suffolk County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 36,367.

Geography

Commack is located at 40°50'42" North, 73°16'60" West (40.845037, -73.283196)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 31.2 km² (12.1 mi²). 31.2 km² (12.1 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 36,367 people, 11,697 households, and 10,176 families residing in the town. The population density is 1,164.3/km² (3,014.9/mi²). There are 11,824 housing units at an average density of 378.5/km² (980.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 94.43% White, 0.64% African American, 0.04% Native American, 3.76% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.48% from other races, and 0.66% from two or more races. 2.90% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 11,697 households out of which 40.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 76.7% are married couples living together, 7.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 13.0% are non-families. 10.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.06 and the average family size is 3.29.

In the town the population is spread out with 26.3% under the age of 18, 5.3% from 18 to 24, 29.7% from 25 to 44, 24.6% from 45 to 64, and 14.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 95.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.3 males.
