Coke County, Texas

Coke County is a county located in the U.S. State of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 3,864. Its county seat is Robert Lee6.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,403 km² (928 mi²). 2,328 km² (899 mi²) of it is land and 76 km² (29 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.14% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 3,864 people, 1,544 households, and 1,068 families residing in the county. The population density is 2/km² (4/mi²). There are 2,843 housing units at an average density of 1/km² (3/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 88.85% White, 1.94% African American, 0.78% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 6.94% from other races, and 1.40% from two or more races. 16.90% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,544 households out of which 27.10% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.40% are married couples living together, 8.10% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.80% are non-families. 29.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.30% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.31 and the average family size is 2.84.

In the county, the population is spread out with 24.40% under the age of 18, 7.50% from 18 to 24, 20.50% from 25 to 44, 23.60% from 45 to 64, and 24.10% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 100.00 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.20 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $29,085, and the median income for a family is $36,724. Males have a median income of $30,778 versus $19,596 for females. The per capita income for the county is $16,734. 13.00% of the population and 9.70% of families are below the poverty line.
