Christopher Hitchens

Christopher Hitchens (born April 26, 1949) is a British-born American journalist, author, and self-proclaimed political gadfly[?].

Over the years he has written for a variety of different publications, including Vanity Fair and The Nation.

Hitchens is well-known for his difficult to predict- some might say inconsistent- political views. Over the years he has written many books and articles on a variety of very controversial subjects, including a condemnation of Mother Teresa as a self-serving egotist and a "trial" of Henry Kissinger as a sinister war criminal. Though often regarded as a member of the American left, Hitchens was a vocal opponent of Bill Clinton, and authored a book entitled No one left to lie to denouncing the president. At the same time, he has also been an outspoken opponent of the far left and socialism, often taking aim at leading leftists such as Noam Chomsky. His support of the 2003 Invasion of Iraq found him feeling politically isolated on the left, and thus led to his resignation from The Nation.
